What a way to start. North deals and could open 1 or 1 with the intent to bid 2NT later. 1 is more normal with this shape, so that's what I've shown. Some Easts like to start by making sure their partners never ever believe that they have a hand resembling their bid so might preempt in spades, but that's not my style. South responds 1 and West might think about a double with all her values in the unbid suits. North continues 2NT and now when South gets a choice, she could choose some conventional bid, but it feels like the deal belongs in slam and rather than guess about methodology, it's easier to just jump to what you think you can make. This was the simple(ish) auction. Things get difficult if the opponents interfere with their big spade fit, but South should be bidding a lot here. Would West double? Maybe. How often do you get to lead against slam holding 2 aces?

Against 6 , West needs to lead the A or a diamond to defeat the contract. The A leads to a quick defeat (assuming West gives partner a ruff rather than trying to cash the A). On a diamond lead, declarer will win in dummy and play a high trump finding out about the bad split, but lacking a way to get to dummy for the finesse. I think the A would be my least favorite lead here (the J109 make it too likely that you are blowing a trick), but stranger things have happened. Slam going down is quite unlucky, as South caught about the worst hand North could have for the 2NT bid (although I suppose North could also have the useless A and no honors in clubs). I'd take this loss. If West leads the wrong ace, South could go for 7 by ruffing, playing the A and then crossing to dummy and playing off winners. Unfortunately, East will ruff the fourth diamond leaving declarer with 12 tricks.

East passes and South is in the wrong seat and at the wrong vulnerability for a club preempt. A 3 bid here should be a good seven-card suit or a VERY good six-card suit. This doesn't cut it. West opens 1 in third seat. North passes and East responds 1 . South can now insert a 2 call as a passed hand. West makes a Support Double(s) . North might try something, but a passed partner is likely just trying to get the right lead. East jumps to 3 with some pluses (the K) and some minuses (a singleton in partner's suit). South passes and West passes with a minimum, ending the auction.

South will have to lead and has to guess. I would probably lead a diamond though you could make a case for anything. Let's say South leads a diamond. Declarer now has several possible paths depending on how she interprets the lead. Winning the K then playing the K and crossing back in diamonds could be right, but risks losing some ruffs if South started with a singleton diamond. Leading trumps at trick two seems safer, though it doesn't work out that well. It looks like most paths lead to four losers, but there could be a lot of ways to get there.

None of this is clear. I would open the South hand at this vulnerability in first seat, but it's a matter of style. West would pass and North responds 1NT semi-forcing (or forcing). East bids 2 and South passes. West isn't happy, but passes and now North could bid 2NT, but I've shown double as "do something." At least, I think it's "do something." It certainly denies 3 spades and shows extra values. East passes and South has no happy options. Maybe 2 could be right or possibly even 3 , but I think pass and pray seems plausible. West might redouble for rescue, but this seems like partner's mess.

South leads the A against 2 and the play could go any number of ways. If South switches to a club, and dummy plays high North should duck to cut off the dummy. From that point, declarer has lots of choices and perhaps more problems. This could get ugly.

Another deal where scientific bidding might not be the answer. Pretend you are East. Partner opens the bidding 1 . What is your thought? Game is certain, but I'd be thinking about slam if at all possible. You respond 1 and now your left hand opponent bids 2 , your void. Partner shows three spades. What about now? Your hand has gotten better and better. Partner doesn't likely have values in clubs and has three spades. You could try some number of clubs to convince partner that you have shortness and slam interest, but again science may not help find the right level anyways. Jumping to 6 is what I'd do at gunpoint or opposite a newer partner. Finding out about cover cards for the fourth heart or the diamond is too difficult. West, with 3 key cards, might think about raising 6 to 7 .

The play in spades (or notrump for that matter) isn't complicated. I expect all declarers to take 13 tricks or spend a lot of time apologizing to partner.

This is a sick one. North opens 1 . East should get in the act here at favorable vulnerability and following an opening bid, even though this hand is barely better than the one on board 1. South cuebids to show a big hand in support of diamonds and West could raise to 4 , but I think 4 on the way may help partner get to the right lead. West shouldn't be worried about playing in hearts instead of spades here. If it goes "all pass" here, West should do some kind of celebratory dance. North's action depends on system; pass, double, or bidding could all work if they show heart controls, but it's not clear. East has probably done enough with her 3-count. South has too much value and too good of a fit to stop. South could bid 6 , hoping to play in a 4-4, but usually you prefer a 4-4 to a 5-3 (so you can use the five-card suit to pitch losers), but here diamonds rate to be 5-4 or 5-5 so no pitches.

Another deal where the play won't take too much time for any declarers. The lucky lie of the clubs means that declarer can take all of the tricks with diamonds as trump.
