The Nasr's got to have South Play the Heart game because they play Flannery, so that is not a mistake.

Minor & Jones tried 3 No Trump, in spite of a 9 card Heart suit.

You pay your money, you get to take your chances.

As East, this was a difficult hand. Partner opens 1 NT and I have 7 "good" points and a singleton.

Do I go for Game or not? I didn't! I stayed LOW and glad I did! If my partner had made 4 Hearts,
I would have claimed "temporary insanity" and quickly gone on to the next hand.

Lawson & Pofcher got a TOP, "What a difference a trick can make"!

After the game, I got asked about what West should lead.

Leading the "unprotected" Ace against a Suit contract is NOT what we teach, but in this case,
partner has the King so no injury! BUT it is a risk that Declarer has the King-x, and by leading
the Ace, you set up declarers King.

The HCP are divided 20-20 so it looks like a fight for a "partial" score.

If N/S miss their 10 card Spade suit, they got a low score.
E/W have a DOUBLE fit in the Minors.

I mis-played the hand when I did NOT take my good King of Spades and take a Heart discard
in dummy. Instead, I took the King of Hearts and finessed the Jack which worked (thankfully).
Sometimes the "bridge gods" don't punish you EVERY time they can, it just seems like it!

My DOUBLE of a 3 Spade contract changed a near average to a TOP for my opponents.

After North opened 2 Spades (weak) and later when they went to 3! I thought I had 4 Spade
tricks in my hand. I watched three Hearts, three Diamonds, and two Clubs play and partner
didn't take any tricks.

Bridge is a Dumb Game! alan hedegard
