Kulkarni & Yaxtheimer made a GOOD lead of the 9 of Clubs against a Spade Contract!

TOP OF A RUN, TOP of a Run, Top of a RUN!!!!!

"Top of a run of clubs or Hearts works out well for the defense.

A singleton trump lead is not so good.

Against a No Trump contract, it is usual to lead:

TOP of a RUN or 4th best from your L O N G E S T & Strongest.

When I saw the King of Spades led, I thought for sure partner would take the 4th Spade.
I over took the King with my Ace, led the Jack of Spades, and then led my 3rd Spade. I wondered
why my partner did not cash her fourth Spade! She had a very good reason, SHE DIDN'T have
a fourth Spade! I must look for that lead on the convention card. I must have missed it in my misspent youth.

Overcalls are recommended to be 10-5-2!

Ten High Card Points (I can shave that if it is an overcall at the 1 level)
5 cards in the suit you overcall. AND
TWO OF THE TOP THREE HONORS.

At one table, South overcalled 1 Diamond and later overcalled in Hearts.

I think the defenders took zero diamonds and only 1 heart! NOT VERY GOOD!!!!

N/S have to be in GAME.

North has 4 HCP (I ignore the Jack of diamonds) but you have a SINGLETON diamond and
a fit in Hearts.

IF East opens, South must "Double" and then "BID".
If East passes, Does South open 2 NT or 1 Heart or 2 Clubs?

Since EVERY South played Hearts, I presume South bid Hearts first!

If South opens 1 Heart, does West overcall? (doesn't have 10-5-2).
What does North bid?
At my table, North bid 2 Hearts and South went to 4!

When North leads the 8 of Spades, and East plays LOW, South must play LOW!
South can see the 9, has the 10, can see the Jack, has the Queen, can see the King.

IF East plays the 2, South plays the 3!
If east plays the 9, South plays the Ten.
If east plays the Jack, South plays the Queen.
If east plays the King, South plays the 6 (encouraging).

Don't play 3rd hand HIGH without THINKING and looking!

Even if East opens 2 NT (which is a fine bid), West must not do anything but PASS!

20 + 4 = 24 (Not Game)
21 + 4 = 25 (Game!) BUT your partner can NEVER get to your hand to finesse ANYTHING.

(It HURTS to give David Ow a good board!!!)
(it does not hurt so much to give Glenn a good board!)
